Interesting Downloads

This is a list of free tools I’ve found while surfing the web, when I’m not busy building websites :)
I’ve found them to be useful, and a couple of them are not so much useful, but I like them, so I thought I’d add them here as well.

I’ve personally tried all of the items listed here, so you can rest assured they’re safe to download and use. And if you find you don’t like them after all, they’re also easy to uninstall. One thing, though – I use a Windows OS, so I don’t know about MAC versions of the items listed below, sorry. (Links will open in a new window)

  • Auto Kindle e-Book Converter – Convert e-books in various formats to a kindle compatible format.
  • Kindle for PC – Read your Kindle e-books right on your Windows computer.
  • Windows 7 Logon Background Changer – Lets you change the wallpaper of the Windows 7 logon (welcome) screen.
  • jZip Compression utility for Windows. Supports multiple popular archive formats such as ZIP, RAR, 7z, ISO, TAR and GZip.
  • Belarc Advisor -  Analyzes software and operating system components and tells you where problems are (if problems exist), and what your computer’s physical components are.
  • Microsoft Security Essentials – Comprehensive malware protection. Supports Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.
  • Interactive Calendar -  A handy desktop calendar that integrates perfectly with the Windows desktop.
  • Open Office -  Multiplatform office productivity suite. Includes desktop applications such as a word processor, spreadsheet program, presentation manager, and a drawing program, with a user interface and feature set similar to those of other office suites.
  • CCleaner - Clean up junk files and invalid Registry entries.
  • Skype – Talk with friends and family for free over the Internet. Video chat included.
  • Dropbox – Synchronize your files automatically to your computers and the Web.
  • AdwCleaner – Another amazing download. Targets and removes adware, toolbars, browser hijackers, and other potentially unwanted programs. Lightweight and fast. Windows 8 ready.
  • Malwarebytes This is one I came across a couple days ago. So far I’m loving it. Their description: “Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free’s industry-leading scanner detects and removes malware like worms, Trojans, rootkits, rogues, spyware, and more. All you have to do is launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free and run a scan. It’s that simple.”
